Preventive care is the foundation of children's dentistry. Regular check-ups with a children's dentist allow us to monitor your child’s dental development, as well as the health of their teeth and gums to identify any concerns. Restorative Treatments
If your child develops tooth decay or damages a tooth, we'll discuss the most appropriate treatment to restore their oral health while keeping them comfortable throughout their appointment. Depending on your child's needs, treatment may include tooth-coloured fillings, protective crowns for baby teeth or, in some cases, pulp therapy to help retain a baby tooth until it is naturally ready to fall out. Our recommendations are always based on your child's individual needs and long-term oral health.
Orthodontic Care
As your child grows, we also monitor the development of their bite, jaw and emerging adult teeth. We recommend booking your child’s first visit with a children’s dentist by their first birthday, or when their first tooth appears. First visits at Restore Dental are short, gentle and focused on making your child feel at ease. Our children’s dentist will:
- Check the growth and development of your child’s teeth, gums and bite
- Look for early signs of decay, alignment issues or habits that may affect oral health (such as thumb sucking)
- Show you how to clean your child’s teeth at home and discuss diet, fluoride and teething

The Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) is a government-funded system that provides financial assistance to eligible children for basic dental services. If eligible, the child benefits schedule can cover part of or the full costs of the dental work, with each child entitled to a maximum of $1,095 over the span of two consecutive calendar years.

The Australian Dental Association recommends a child’s first visit to a children’s dentist by their first birthday, or within six months of their first tooth appearing. Early visits help your child get comfortable with the dental setting and let us catch any developmental issues early.
If this seems too early for you and your child, we recommend at least having a checkup by the time all of the primary teeth have erupted by 2 – 2.5 years old.
At Restore Dental, our general dentists have extensive experience treating children and are trained to make young patients feel comfortable and safe. For most children, care from an experienced general dentist who regularly treats kids is exactly what’s needed. If your child requires specialist paediatric care, we can refer you.
Medicare does not cover general dental care, but eligible families can access up to $1,095 per child over two years through the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS). Our team can check your eligibility when you book.
